Daytona 500 Fragarance - The Scent Of Racing Sports News
Wednesday, September 20, 2006
The Daytona 500, which is commonly referred to as the Super Bowl of NASCAR, is held each year in February. Drawing hundreds of thousands of fans each year, with even more watching at home on television, the Daytona 500 is racing’s most anticipated event. The sports news media agrees with large press attendance and pre-event weekend coverage. It serves as the season opener for the new racing season, but now it serves as so much more. While sports news continuously surrounds the annual Daytona 500, it is now focused on a new men’s fragrance of the same name.
Elizabeth Arden, which is the #2 American perfume creator, will begin offering the “Daytona 500" men’s fragrance beginning in April 2006. In addition to being found at participating retailers, the Daytona 500 fragrance is expected to be readily available online. Elizabeth Arden believes that the scent “embodies the confidence, power and intensity of the men daring enough to race in the ultimate adrenaline rush.” And what a rush it is. The Daytona 500 is arguably the most exciting race of the year and is widely published in sports news publications, as well as sports news programs.
Jeff Gordon, four-time Cup champion and defending Daytona 500 victor, already promotes another product in the Elizabeth Arden fragrance line. Halston, which is also a men’s fragrance, is promoted by Jeff Gordon, who serves as product spokesman. When Gordon signed on as a representative in February 2005, Elizabeth Arden claimed that their sales increased by 30-40% from previous sales. It is this relationship that creates the preexisting association between Elizabeth Arden and NASCAR.
With the release of the Daytona 500" fragrance, sports news will once again be swirling around the sport. But, by April, with the Daytona 500 competition long since past, the new Daytona 500 sports news will come in the form of a men’s fragrance. With this being the first racing-related fragrance, it is only fitting that it would be named after the first regular NASCAR sanctioned event. During it’s earliest days, racing at the beach in Daytona quickly became the base for which the sanctioning body of NASCAR was born.
Sports news is found everywhere from the internet to the television and printed publication. If it happens in NASCAR and the Daytona 500, it is sure to be covered. At the same time, any product that references both is sure to be a sports news magnet.

The Engineering Side Of The Porsche 911 With The 997 Body Shell
It’s always a treat when the German automaker, Porsche releases a new 911 model just from an engineering standpoint; I am constantly amazed how after over four decades of production of this iconic speedster Porsche always seems able to deliver something that we haven’t seen before. It is almost like they are the NASA of the automotive world, constantly introducing true innovations to the automotive industry.
The new bodyshell for the 911 is dubbed the 997 and gives us the sexy smooth styling of the 996 body series but is blended with the retro chic look of the earlier 911. The front of the body features rounded lights and independent parking and fog lights. This modification coupled with the wider hip adjustment brings to mind the earlier and now extinct air cooled 911 body which was called the 993. The new look also introduces a new door handle style, wing mirrors, and the rear wings are integrated into the bumper.
The 997 bodyshell while resembling the 996 is almost 40mm wider and makes for a more forceful looking appearance without dramatically altering the styling of the car. Another key issue with the German car maker is to always try to reduce the drag in order to make the vehicle cut through air with the least friction possible and they have done it again with the 997 bodyshell. The drag co-efficient has been reduced from .34 in the 993 to .28 now in the new 997. This is one of the engineering marvels that is just mind blowing to me. How can they take a car that already has one of the lowest drag co-efficients and make it even lower?
The advances in the structural engineering and suspension have created a Porsche that handles better than ever with improved rigidity in the torsion bars and nearly forty percent more flexural strength.
Improving crash safety was a key desire for the new 911, hence two new airbags are now located in the side of each front seat back rest which are made to protect the thorax area of the body. This new addition along with the two front and two side airbags brings the tall up to six.
The new stronger bodyshell also employs more super high strength steel than ever before which makes it over 100 lbs heavier than the 996 before it, but the reason is to meet the newer crash safety standards. Despite the additional weight, the advances in aerodynamics help it to match the performance of the 996 themed 911.

Freestream: A Small Sports Car That Out-Accelerates The Biggest And Best
Latest super-sports car from England is the Caparo Freestream supercar, which will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000 bhp per ton! The Bugatti Veyron which has 1,001 bhp manages about 560 bhp per tonne, so how you can see that the Caparo is streets ahead of any other supercar in power-to-weight ratio, and that is what makes cars accelerate fast. And fast acceleration is very exciting, and can also improve safety of the car in some circumstances.
So how does the Caparo do it? Not with 2,000 bhp because the car would weigh at least 2.5 tons, which would miss the target. In fact, Bugatti has demonstrated that sheer power means a lot of weight, particularly in the transmission and brakes.
To get a high power-to-weight-ratio you need a light car. And why is a high power-to-weight-ratio important? Because it dictates how fast the car accelerates flat out. A car with a high power-to-weight-ratio can cover the ground quicker because it gets out of corners fast and accelerates up the straights faster. So long as the handling is good, the car will be very fast anywhere.
Lightweight solution
Instead of going for a big engine with masses of power, the designers, who worked on the McLaren F1, have gone for ultra lightweight and a compact V-8 engine based on F1 technology. The result is a pencil-slim car with 480 bhp at 10,500 rpm from a supercharged 2.4 liter engine, and a weight of under 1,100 lb. Both the new engine and transmission are very light, as are all the components. The very narrow body without fully enclosed fenders also reduces weight.
The whole design concept has been aimed at reducing weight, ore not putting in things that add weight. First, the power train is very light compared with mass-production units. Then, the carbon fiber body/chassis is also much lighter than most, as designers without Grand Prix experience tend to over-design their structures. Also, because the power train is light, the loads on the body are lower, so again less weight does not need to be built into the structure.
It has a very narrow cockpit, with the passenger sitting slightly behind the driver to reduce width, so this is more of a track racer or trackday special than a road car. Even so, this car changes the concept of exotic cars to where it should be - ultra-lightweight, compactness and exciting performance round twisty roads or circuits.
To save weight they have adopted a narrow coupe body with cycle-type front mudguards, and side-mounted radiators which flow into the rear fenders.
In fact, these are all factors used by Colin Chapman to design the early Lotus cars, and since used by all racing car companies. In other words, the Caparo Freestream really takes advantage of Grand Prix technology to build a supercar.
The Caparo Freestream looks very unusual, but if you want sheer performance this is it! The makers say the car will hit 200 mph, and accelerate from a standing start of 100 mph in 5.5 seconds!! Holy mackerel that is fast. Oh, and they also say that owing to the downforce available, the T1 will be able to corner and brake at 3g - incredible. This tremendous cornering power and braking would not be possible without the use of Grand Prix design principles.
On top of all that, Caparo, which produces a lot of components for the auto industry, have priced the Freestream at about $320,000 (£176,000).

3 Reasons To Take Up Golf
Golf is a game played by over 4 million people in the UK. Its popularity is ever increasing and for good reason. That many people can’t be wrong. If you’re toying with the idea of taking up golf and maybe investing a in a few lessons, perhaps the arguments below will convince you of the game’s worth.
Excersise
Many of us lead very sedentary lives, usually as a result of having a hectic 9-5 office job. We might have family to take care of the rest of the time and before we know it, the week has slipped by and we still haven’t been able to do any exercise. Contrary to what some people might believe, golf is a sport which is great for increasing your level of physical fitness. You might not be sweating profusely by the end of it, but you will have walked an awful lot around the course and as we know, walking is one of the best forms of exercise you can do.
Fresh air
What’s so good about golf is that it can be played in any weather; on a sunny day, there is surely nothing so glorious as to be out on a green playing a few rounds of golf, and similarly, in blustery weather a round of golf can be very invigorating. Instead of exercising in a sweaty, stuffy, overcrowded gym, get outside and breathe in some fresh air; you’ll feel fitter already.
Fun
With the busy lives we all lead nowadays, it’s good to have a hobby to provide some escapism - even better if this hobby involves exercise, which golf does. Golf is a fantastic opportunity to get together with some friends and play a few rounds. Belonging to a club also adds to that feeling of camaraderie, especially when you’re digesting your game over a pint in the clubhouse afterwards.
Now that you’re raring to go, you might want to look into a golf holiday.

How To Increase Profits As A Golf Pro
So you’ve got your tour card, and you are making decent money as a golf pro. Or, maybe you’re looking into becoming a pro, but aren’t sure of how well it pays. Either way, this article will show you how to increase your pay as a golf pro, and maximize profits for the long term of your golf pro career. While some people may not believe that becoming a golf pro should be all about the money, it is important to give heed to this concept since you will have to feed your family, and pay the bills. In a profession like golf, it is easy to get carried away with giving away free lessons, and playing extra rounds with friends. If you want to be a serious golf pro, you must learn to manage your time, as well as your money to ensure you earn enough money to make a descent living.
The first step in making more money as a golf pro is not allowing yourself to accept less than what you are worth. Do your research, find out what other golf pro’s with similar experience are making per year. Request that you get paid at least that much in your wages. It is important to not undersell yourself. Even if you are working on an hourly basis, make sure you get a quality hourly wage. All you have to do is ask, and the worst your employer can do is say no. Often they will meet your needs if you are providing them with an above average service to their clients.
Next you must become a golf pro that keeps the clock running and the billing hours in order. This means no extra time should be given away to any clients if they are not paying you. This often happens with golf pro’s that will charge per hour, but end up giving an hour and a half of service per the clients request. Simply develop a mechanism to alert your clients that after one hour you are either in need of billing another hour, or should attend to another client. This will help your golf pro business be as efficient as possible, and allow for you to make the most money each day.
Go to work early, and stay late. This is often overlooked by golf pro’s that swear by a relaxed schedule. Don’t allow others to bring you into a situation where you are only working a few hours a day in the afternoon. Chances are if you are at the course early in the morning, there will be work you can do, and bill for, and this will be the same in the evenings as well. The more that you make yourself available, and the more time you dedicate to your golf pro job, the better your wage will be at the end of the month.
Become an expert in one facet of the game. Are you great with the driver? Can you knock down some long distance putts with ease? Whatever it is that you can do best, try to bill yourself as the expert in that area. This will surely bring you new clients. Often clients looking to work with a golf pro have a specific thing they want to work on. Like driving, or putting. By getting the word out that you are an expert, this will help new clients come to you for instruction. Becoming an expert increases your chances of billing more hours. If you have a solid game overall, but don’t have one element that is better than the rest, start to practice one element, and study one element off the course. Becoming an expert isn’t all about natural ability; it can happen through study and training.
